Honoring Our Heroes on Veteran’s Day

The Knights of Columbus 4th Degree will be recognizing parishioners and their families who have served or are currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces or as First Responders. These heroes will be honored with a “Field of Flags” displayed from November 8th –11th in celebration of Veterans Day.

Food Pantry Donations Welcome

Our Food Pantry has seen an uptick in families requesting assistance due to the suspension of SNAP Benefits. We welcome any and all donations to keep supporting those experiencing food insecurity. You can donate items anytime at the cart in the entrance of the Parish Center or bring into the Religious Education Office. Is your child not feeling well?

Please keep children home from class if they are not feeling well. We are all in this together! Keeping sick children home helps us all stay healthy and in school.

Parents, also remind or encourage your child to use the restroom before class. We only have an hour with your child each week and that time is precious to us! This will help with the interruptions in class during this short time.

There will be an organizational meeting on Monday, November 10 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm in the GPC.

The Leadership Team for the Middle School Youth Group is in need of additional individuals who feel the call to serve. There are a number of opportunities to be a part of this great opportunity for our middle school students to strengthen their faith and have fun while doing so.

Servant of God

Pope Francis has asked dioceses to begin a new annual celebration to remember people whose causes for canonization have been opened, but who are not yet beatified. In the Archdiocese of Omaha, we are blessed to have the memory and example of the Servant of God, Father Edward Joseph Flanagan.

Fr. Flanagan lived from 1886-1948. Born in Ireland, his father was a herdsman. He moved to the USA in 1904 and was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Omaha in 1912. He served at St. Patrick Parish in O’Neill and St. Patrick Parish in Omaha before founding Boys Town in 1921. He served there faithfully until his death in 1948. His cause for Sainthood was opened in 2012. Since Fr. Flanagan is not yet beatified or canonized, the Church carries out no public prayers for his intercession, as we do with the Saints and Blesseds. However, individuals are free and encouraged to seek his intercession. Should healings happen by his intercession, all people are encouraged to communicate those to the archbishop, since three verified healings are needed for eventual canonization.

Father Flanagan has been named a Servant of God, the first step in the canonization process. His cause is currently in the Roman phase, where a Vatican dicastery is exhaustively reviewing the submitted documents.
